Morichika: Yet another great addition to our unfolding OTT revolution

On 12 July, Bengali OTT platform Chorki released its first original web series Morichika. With its star cast, this eight-episode-long series has gained a lot of positive reactions from viewers. Our GLITZ team has come out with various aspects regarding the web series.

Story Line of the Series

The series starts with an unidentified corpse that is found under the bridge by some locals. Police later learned that the body was of a model named Bonnie played by Mahiya Mahi.

Although at first it was thought to be a case of suicide, Investigation Officer Inspector Shakil suspected it murder from the very beginning. After the post-mortem report, it gets clear that Bonnie was murdered. The primary suspect was Bonnie’s husband Juwel, played by Farhan Ahmed Jovan.

After investigating the matter a little deeper, Inspector Shakil, played by Siam Ahmed gets to know the involvement of Salam Sharif, an influential political figure played by Afran Nisho in the murder case. 

Throughout the series, we get to know how a young girl gets trapped and used in the aspiration of becoming a model, how an ordinary police officer going against all the odds tries to solve the murder mystery.

Performances

Even before its release, Marichika gained huge popularity among the masses due to its talented star cast. Siam Ahmed, as the role of the inspector, and Afran Nisho as the antagonist of the series have portrayed their characters phenomenally. Especially, Afran Nisho as Salam Sharif  has done stellar performance in the series. The intensity he has bought in his character proves how extraordinary a performer he is.

From the start of Mahiya Mahi’s career, critics always raised eyebrows over her acting capabilities. So, everyone eagerly waited to see how Mahi performs among such talented actors. Mahi hasn’t disappointed her fans. She has proven her acting capabilities through this web series. Although Jewel's presence in the series was less than that of the other three main characters, it is in no way less important than the other three. Jovan in the role of Juwel has justified the role very perfectly.

Other actors in Supporting roles like Abdullah Rana Naznin Hasan Chumki, Naresh Bhuiya, Setu Azad, etc have played their parts tremendously well.

The ever-present uniqueness under the direction of Shihab Shaheen is also reflected in Morichika. The suspense and the character-building process of the series that goes throughout the series will keep you attracted to the series till the end.

Locations, Background music, and Cinematography are brilliant in this web series. These attributes are crucial for a movie or web series to give viewers a kind of experience or message that the makers want to give. People involved in areas of the web series have done a commendable job here.

The interesting thing about web series that has revolutionized our entertainment industries in the recent past is the authenticity and the relevancy of the stories of these web films that reflect society. Authenticity and relevancy are the things that our conventional film stories were lacking off. These web films that have been released in the recent past mirrors our society and people are accepting these web films. This also has happened in the case of ‘Morichika’. When any viewer is watching Morichika, after some time watching the series in most of the cases he/she starts to feel that he/she has observed or gone through the same phases the characters in the series go through. This kind of relevancy & authenticity that were missing in our entertainment sector for a long time has finally been back through the web series.
